UPM and Felix Schoeller introduce customizable, fibre-based solution for flexible food packaging

UPM’s and Felix Schoeller’s solution will be on display at Interpack at UPM Specialty Materials’ stand F29, Hall 8A, Düsseldorf, Germany, May 7-13.

How co-creation helps to renew the everyday

  • Flexible food packaging solution ideal for chocolate and snack bars.
  • Barrier performance tailored to each end-use.
  • Smooth performance on high-speed coating lines and outstanding printability.
  • Fibre-based solution made with UPM SolideTM Lucent packaging paper.
  • Meets upcoming EU recyclability requirements.

Customizable barrier solution for flexible food packaging

As brand-owners face diverse packaging needs, UPM Specialty Materials and Felix Schoeller have developed a customizable barrier solution with protection levels for different end-use requirements.

Designed specifically for flexible food packaging – for products such as chocolate and snack bars – the solution delivers reliable performance even for demanding end-uses.

Supporting the transition to recyclable packaging

With demand for recyclable packaging growing, the collaboration delivers a solution that supports the industry’s transition toward the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) recyclability requirements.

The result is a fibre-based, food-safe packaging solution that combines recyclability* with high-performance barrier protection based on UPM Solide Lucent barrier base paper and Felix Schoeller’s barrier concept.

“Instead of relying on fixed technologies or standard barrier levels, we design customizable coating solutions that deliver the protection
required – whether against oxygen, moisture, grease, or for sealing and mechanical performance. UPM Solide Lucent has proven to be an excellent base material for this.

Andreas Bergmeier, Head of Innovation & Technical Sales Packaging, Felix Schoeller

Fibre-based packaging solution with excellent convertibility

UPM Solide Lucent features an exceptionally smooth and dense surface, enabling lower coating weights while delivering the strength needed for reliable performance on high-speed production lines. This makes it well suited for efficient converting.

“UPM Solide Lucent runs reliably on our coating lines, offers well-balanced mechanical performance, and delivers outstanding printability.”

Andreas Bergmeier, Head of Innovation & Technical Sales Packaging, Felix Schoeller

With a wide range of available grammages, UPM Solide Lucent adapts to diverse application requirements.

Flexible food packaging is evolving quickly, and brand owners need solutions that deliver both high-performance barrier protection and recyclability. Our collaboration with Felix Schoeller demonstrates how UPM Solide Lucent can be adapted to different end-uses, enabling fully fibre-based packaging concepts that are ready for tomorrow’s regulatory expectations.
